BYD Recalls Almost 100,000 EVs For Fire Risks As It Looks To Enter The Two-Wheeler Space

 


The past few months have witnessed Chinese automakers making waves in the global automotive industry, particularly with their cost-effective electric vehicles (EVs). Brands such as Xiaomi and Huawei, traditionally known for consumer electronics, have entered the EV market. Meanwhile, BYD, a prominent name in the sector, is leading the charge and competing directly with Tesla. However, as BYD continues its rapid expansion, it has encountered a few hurdles, one of which is a notable recall involving thousands of its EVs.

Details of BYD’s Recent Recall

BYD recently reported to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) in China that it will recall 96,714 of its electric vehicles. The recall affects two of BYD’s top-selling models: the Dolphin and Yuan Plus, both manufactured between November 2022 and December 2023. This recall is scheduled to begin on September 30, 2024, and stems from a manufacturing defect related to the steering control unit, which poses a fire risk. The company will be installing physical fixes to address the issue. There’s no mention of whether exported vehicles are affected, but this recall impacts around 26% of BYD’s total
